What are Usage Metrics?

Usage metrics are data points that measure how people interact with a product or service, including how often they use it, how long they spend using it, and what actions they take while using it. These metrics are important for understanding how customers are using a product or service, identifying patterns and trends in user behaviour, and evaluating the success of product or service design.

Common usage metrics include:

  1. Active Users: The number of unique users who interact with a product or service within a given time period.
  2. Session Length: The amount of time users spend interacting with a product or service during a single session.
  3. Retention Rate: The percentage of users who return to a product or service after their first use.
  4. Engagement Rate: The percentage of users who take a desired action, such as clicking a button or completing a task, while using a product or service.
  5. Conversion Rate: The percentage of users who complete a desired action, such as making a purchase, after interacting with a product or service.
  6. Churn Rate: The percentage of users who stop using a product or service over time.

By analysing these usage metrics, product and service designers can identify areas for improvement, make data-driven decisions, and optimise the user experience for greater engagement and success.
